Foods That Can Help You Sleep

Sleep is important because it's the time when our bodies reset and rejuvenate. When we are not getting enough sleep it can really effect our everyday life, we tend to be grumpier, less patient and more forgetful.  There are many reasons you may have trouble sleeping at night such as; thinking about a stressful situation at work, caffeine, electronic stimulation. What ever your reason may be fro not getting a good nights sleep, there are some foods that you can add into your diet that have been shown to help promote a betters night rest.

There are a few nuts which can help for a better nights rest such as almonds and walnuts. Almonds are great because they are rich in magnesium. Magnesium is one of the key elements within our body that encourages natural sleeping rhythms and tiredness. Walnuts are helpful for sleep promotion because it is rich in tryptophan. Tryptophan is an amino acid that encourages sleep because it produces melatonin and serotonin, which help to regulate your sleep clock.

Cherry juice is a great drink to help you sleep because it helps to boost your levels of melatonin. One research study showed that people who participated in nighttime cherry juice drinking saw decreased nights of insomnia. If you're not a fan of cherry juice finding a nice non-caffeinated tea can also work. Chamomile tea is helpful because it increases the chemical glycine. Glycine helps to relax your muscles and improve sleep quality.

If you find you are still having trouble sleeping I would recommend seeing your local wellness provider like San Diego Chiropractor, Dr. Henry Wong. Dr. Wong, along with other San Deigo Chiropractors say many of people suffer from insomnia because their nervous system is subluxated (compressed) and their body is working overtime trying to compensate. Getting adjusted on a regular basis has enhanced quality of sleep for almost all their patients who complained about problems sleeping.
